The Hope of Resurrection
- Dr. Marc Mortensen
Knowing that He which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus…
- 2 Corinthians 4:14
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
- 1 Peter 1:3
What is hope? The modern idea of hope is “to wish for, to expect, but without certainty of the fulfillment; to desire very much, but with no real assurance of getting your desire.” In Scripture, however, the word ‘hope’ means: “a strong and confident expectation.”
Jesus’s resurrection is the basis of Christian hope:
- Hope that our sins are forgiven
- Hope that we’ll be reunited with our dearly missed ones someday
- Hope that in heaven we’ll finally experience the fullness of God without the filter of sin
- Hope that there is a new creation coming
- Hope that everything wrong with the world will be made right
The tomb and the cross are empty. Jesus is alive. He made a way for us to be free from our sin by His death on the cross. It was His death, burial, and resurrection that provide us an eternal, heavenly home. “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
This earth is only our temporary home. God is preparing a place for us to live with Him forever. Jesus is our living hope! Do you have the hope of the resurrection?
