Library
Westwood Christian school strives to achieve excellence in all
aspects of our ministry and this includes our library. The mission of the
Westwood Christian School Library is to work together with faculty and
administration to enable students to be effective and responsible users of
information and ideas in order to foster intellectual, spiritual, personal, and
social developments for service to the Lord.
Our school libraries vision is to function as the academic hub
of the school. We seek to fully integrate all curriculum and strategy so that
the students can become lifelong learners and always have the information
readily at hand. The libraries goal is to enable the students to be successful
by providing them access to information so that they can evaluate, enjoy, and
create ideas and information in any format.
As a library, we have over 23.1 books per student and
subscriptions to more than 80 periodicals. We are in the process of developing
a program to fully automate the library media center-including the catalogs,
encyclopedias, CD-ROMs, public library databases, First Search, Word Cat,
Infotrac, and selected websites. In addition, the library also possesses a
collection of VCR's, DVD's, and CD-ROM programs to enhance the classroom
learning environment. We are also working with other library organization to
enhance our facility. Currently students can access the Miami-Dade County
Library System and check books out online, having the books shipped to a local
library branch. This also allows access to the Inter-Library Loan system.
