That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. - 1 Corinthians 2:5

Fine Arts

Westwood Christian has an extensive fine arts program that is implemented throughout all grades.  Our choirs prepare during the fall for a winter concert, participate in the spring FACCS State Fine Arts competition, and host a spring concert each May.  Chorus if offered for students in the 4-12th grades.  Each level, elementary, middle, and high school have their own separate concerts in December and in May. Students not only learn the methods of correct singing, but they learn how to read music, and basic music theory concepts. Goal of chorus is to help students to develop their singing to the best of their abilities to be used for the Lord.

Westwood Christian also offers a graded band program open to all students. From fifth grade through high school, WCS bands provide both a music education and an opportunity for performing. Our goal is to guide and instruct our students in the development and use of their God-given abilities and to provide opportunities for them to use those abilities in a performance setting. Each of the four bands performs in both the Christmas and spring concerts alongside our choirs. In addition, each student is encouraged to participate in solo/ensemble festivals in both Christian and public associations.

Florida Bandmaster's Association State Solo-Ensemble Festival

WCS band students Adria Cejas, Daniel Marquez, and Melina Pardo took their musical abilities to the next level as they advanced to the Florida Bandmaster’s Association State Solo-Ensemble Festival.  On March 31, 2010, these three talented and hard-working musicians went to J. P. Taravella high school to represent WCS at the state solo-ensemble festival.  In order to qualify for this event, each had to perform a solo with a grade 5 or higher level of difficulty at the district festival and earn a superior rating.

Melina Pardo played an unaccompanied flute solo, Partita in A minor, by J. S. Bach Daniel Marquez played two solos.  He played an alto saxophone solo, Aria, by Eugene Bozza, and a baritone saxophone solo, Pavanne, by Gabriel Faure.  Adria Cejas played a grade 7 flute solo (the highest level of difficulty), Carnivale Di Venezia, by Giulio Briccialdi.

Congratulations to all three!  You are great musicians and WCS is proud of you!  Thank you for representing us.

FBA District 20 Honor Band Festival

WCS congratulates some of our finest band students this year who were chosen to represent WCS at the FBA District 20 Honor Band Festival.  Students arrived at this two day event with their music already prepared and then had two days of intensive rehearsing with the best musicians from our district.  After rehearsing Friday evening and all day Saturday, each band presented a concert at Ransom Everglades Upper School. The middle school band was directed by Melena Calle and the high school band was directed by Brian Wuttke. Both bands did a superb job and our students represented WCS in a way that made us proud of them!  Thanks for your hard work and sacrifice to uphold the good name and high standards of WCS.
