Elementary Academics
Westwood Christian School has been educating kindergarten and elementary school children in Miami for almost fifty years. The core of the academic program centers on laying and building upon a solid foundation in math and language arts skills. As these skills develop, students are progressively introduced to the higher order thinking that is necessary for applying the scientific method and other processes. Teachers also assist students in developing an appreciation of their culture as well as an understanding of the democratic values and complex heritage of American society.
Although it is not treated exactly like other academic subjects, Westwood Christian School emphasizes the teaching of the Bible as God’s Holy Word. Elementary students enjoy daily Bible classes, as teachers share stories and make practical applications from the Scriptures.
Half-day kindergarten students receive all the academic instruction they need to be prepared for the first grade. Those enrolled in the full-day kindergarten receive the added value of receiving instruction in the following subjects over the course of the school year: Art, Music, Technology, and Spanish. Full-day kindergarten students also receive additional time for skills reinforcement and language arts enrichment. All kindergarten students, whether full-day or half-day, have Physical Education courses throughout the school year.
