Volunteer Opportunities
Elementary Intramural Basketball Program
We are excited to inform you that we are planning some opportunities for your children to develop their basketball skills. We will offer basketball skills classes for boys and girls in grades 1 through 5 through the December ASPIRE program. Sean Fullerton will lead these classes. We are planning to offer the basketball skills classes to 1st grader on Mondays, to 2nd & 3rd graders on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and to 4th & 5th graders on Wednesdays & Fridays.
We are also planning to host an intramural basketball league for as many elementary students as possible. While details are still being considered, we plan to offer this program to our 3rd through 5th graders with the possibility of extending it down to even younger grades. This intramural program will necessitate the involvement of volunteer coaches (parents are preferred) who pass a background check. This background check will involve a fee, but the school will reimburse any parent for this expense provided their background check is cleared through the agency we use.
We expect this intramural league to begin in January and to end in February. We are planning for the practices and games to be held right after school (3:30 PM), but we might have some games on Friday nights or Saturdays to allow as many family and friends to watch the games.
To make all of these basketball plans possible, I have ordered two new basketball goals for the elementary school gym. These goals are portable, adjustable in height from 6'6" to 10', and even collapsible for storing. I think you will be impressed when you see them, but they are not due to arrive until the end of this month.
As more details are finalized, I will pass the information on to you. In the meantime, I encourage you to consider registering your child for the December ASPIRE basketball skills classes when the December ASPIRE class list goes home. I really think our children can benefit from this program.
